XRPL Integrates Wormhole for Cross-Chain Access

Ripple has made a major update to the XRP Ledger (XRPL), working with Wormhole to allow token transfers and communication between XRPL and over 35 other blockchains.

This move was announced by RippleX, the developer team behind XRPL. The integration lets users send assets like XRP and other native tokens across supported networks such as Ethereum and Solana.

Wormhole is a major player in the cross-chain space, used by big firms like BlackRock, Apollo, and Securitize. It supports over 200 applications and has processed more than $60 billion in volume since launching in 2020. By teaming up with XRPL, it brings fast, low-cost, and secure cross-chain messaging and asset transfers to more than six million XRPL users.

Ripple CTO David Schwartz said, “If you want real mass adoption, interoperability is essential… With this integration, tokens natively issued on the XRP Ledger are being set up for that reality by being able to move between blockchain networks while maintaining native issuance, and control.”

This update supports Ripple’s wider plan to make XRPL a hub for onchain finance. It adds to other recent XRPL developments, such as the adoption of USDC and support from Ondo Finance for its tokenized U.S. debt product. Developers can now build multichain apps on XRPL using tools they already know, without changing their workflow.

Meanwhile, Wormhole’s messaging lets apps share data or trigger actions across blockchains. This means institutions can issue stablecoins or tokenized assets with multichain support, all while using XRPL’s fast and affordable system.

Robinson Burkey, Wormhole Foundation’s co-founder, said, “By integrating Wormhole into the XRP Ledger, we’re helping unlock even greater potential spanning all major blockchains for one of the most established blockchain networks in enterprise finance.”

Ripple says the integration helps XRPL users tap into a broader crypto ecosystem, combining XRPL’s features with multi-chain flexibility. The upgrade is expected to make XRP more useful for payments, DeFi, and real-world asset transfers across different blockchains.
